Romans 12:3
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less! Sin is the manifestation of selfishness. We want to be in charge of our own lives, not surrender our lives totally to God. Apart from Christ our lives can become about controlling every detail and using others to get the outcomes that benefit me. But then God saves us, He delivers us from the penalty of sin and breaks the power of sin in our lives. As we offer our lives back to God in total surrender (12:1) and He begins to do the work of transformation on our hearts and lives (12:2), the way that we view ourselves and others is radically changed!
Having been a recipient of His mercy and grace, we are transformed into servants of God who are vessels of His mercy and grace to others! Self-obsession is replaced with a deep desire to be used by God to be a blessing to others. To love them as Christ loves us! This is when the Christian life gets exciting!
PASSAGE: Romans 12:3 - "For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you."
PAUSE: Do you have healthy self-esteem? Do you tend to think more of yourself than you should? Or do you have low self-esteem and shame yourself? In Christ, we have been blessed by God’s grace. Sober judgment refers to having a healthy perspective on who we are in Christ! See yourself in Christ!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your grace. Forgive me for the times I think more of myself than I should. Please help me to be balanced in life.
