2 Peter 1:21

PASSAGE: 2 Peter 1:21 - For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

PAUSE: The Bible is made up of two testaments, consisting of 66 books written by different authors in more than a thousand year period. But when we look at our Bibles today, we see one book. Pause and think about that for a moment. It's a beautiful picture not to gloss over. The fact that so many different authors over such a long period of time could weave together a perfectly cohesive storyline is truly miraculous. It's remarkable to see the earlier prophecies that are confirmed hundreds of years later and then recorded by eyewitnesses. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible truly is one story of God's love and desire to be with His people. The miraculous cohesiveness of Scripture points to God as the author of all Scripture, yet it's also remarkable to see how God worked through the unique human authors. Without bypassing the personalities of the Biblical writers, God spoke directly through them by the guiding power of the Holy Spirit! Instead of the Bible falling from Heaven as a completed book, God demonstrated His power and sovereignty in creating and preserving His word over time as He interacted with His people in His creation. What a gift that is!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, Your Word is so beautifully unique! You powerfully speak Your perfect truth through the real lives and fears and fallenness of the human writers. Amen.
