1 Timothy 4:6-7
PASSAGE: 1 Timothy 4:6-7 - "If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly."
PAUSE: For the believer, the core doctrines of the Word serve two purposes. They protect us from false doctrines. And they serve as a training guide as we grow in godliness! False teaching is as rampant in 2024 as it has ever been. It is a constant threat to believers and will shipwreck our faith if we embrace it in any of its many forms. I believe one of the main manifestations of false teaching today is the insidious idea that being saved by grace means that a person is now “free” to live however they want to live because they are covered by grace. This denies that a saved person is now under the Lordship of Jesus Christ! He is our Leader, our King! So, the sound teachings in His Word point us to all that He wants for us in the new life we have in Christ. But we have to align ourselves with these life-giving truths. Like an athlete training for the Olympics, Christians must learn and apply the “healthy doctrines” of the Word. And the end goal of that training is our growth in godliness! Godliness can be defined as an active faith in Christ and the outward life it produces!
PRAYER: Lord, Your Word shows what is true and what is false. And Your Word guides me along the path of becoming more like Jesus. Thank You Lord! Amen.
