Mission of Hope

Mission of Hope | The Chapel Missions Partner

The Chapel has a long history with our partner, Mission of Hope. For many years, The Chapel regularly sent teams to Mission of Hope in Haiti to help establish their medical clinic, facilities, and various other ministries. And now, through God’s faithfulness, Mission of Hope is working alongside local churches and leaders in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to transform lives through church advancement, nutrition, education, and medical care.

With the food crisis in Haiti, The Chapel has also hosted 4 Meal packing events where over 339,000 meal kits were packed and sent back to Haiti to support families in need with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Consider how God might be calling you to change your world in the Dominican Republic!

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

As Mission of Hope continues to grow, there are new opportunities for The Chapel in the Dominican Republic:

Medical Teams

Mission of Hope needs medical teams to operate a mobile medical clinic in surrounding and sometimes more remote villages. To be effective, The Chapel prefers to staff teams with 2 doctors and to fill the rest of the team with both medical professionals and non-medical participants. We have medical trips currently scheduled in both 2024 and 2025.

Business Mentoring

The Chapel has collaborated with Mission of Hope to assist groups of business owners and entrepreneurs in the Dominican Republic. Chapel teams meet with each of the business leaders within this group to offer training, coaching, mentoring, and encouragement unique to each of their specific needs.

Work / Service Projects

Mission of Hope is experienced at hosting hundreds of mission teams during the summer. The Chapel has a unique opportunity to serve our partner by helping maintain their facilities, painting, and making small improvements to their campus and the surrounding community.

Mission of Hope

Brad & Vanessa Johnson

In 1972, Sharon Johnson went to Haiti to direct a choir that was traveling around the country. As she looked into the faces in the crowds, she fell in love with the people of Haiti.

She returned each year to help the people of Haiti with her husband, Bob Johnson. Over time, they began to feel the need to have an on-going work in country, one that would help every day of the year and not just once or twice a year. In 1983 they formed what is today Mission of Hope Haiti. In 1989 they acquired a piece of barren land just north of Port au Prince.

In 1997, Brad Johnson, Bob & Sharon’s son, and his wife Vanessa went to Haiti on a week-long trip to serve the people there. While serving, they watched an 18 month old baby die as her father held her on their way to a clinic. They learned the baby had starved to death from the parents not having any food.
This moment was etched in their mind forever and they could not escape the image of the grieving parents as they mourned the loss of their daughter. A year later, Brad and Vanessa moved full-time to Haiti to begin work on the Mission of Hope Haiti property.

Officially founded in 1998, Mission of Hope has since grown from a small mission located on barren piece of land, to a fruitful organization that now houses an onsite orphanage, medical facility, school, and church. Through partnerships, the Mission also serves outside of its property by helping other orphanages, churches, and schools throughout the country.
