Romans 3:10-12
PASSAGE: Romans 3:10-12 - ...as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
PAUSE: Paul’s “closing arguments” against the sinfulness of mankind are stated in the extreme and leaves no loopholes! None are righteous!! Meaning that no one, on their own merit, has a right standing before God. These verses in Romans 3:10-12 are direct statements from the Old Testament that Paul is stringing together to describe the utter sinfulness of humanity as a whole and of every single individual. He is not saying in these verses that every single person is as bad and evil in their lives as they possibly could be. Rather, he is making the important point that there is nothing in the heart of mankind that does what he does, even the “good” things, for the glory of God! So, our sinfulness is not just an issue of our actions, but also of our motives. (See Romans 1:21). In our fallen state, we do all that we do out of selfish motives or to please man and not to please God!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, the verdict is in, and I am utterly guilty before You. I am a sinner both in my actions and my motives. Help me to see my sin for what it is! No more excuses! Amen.
