2 Corinthians 4:4

PASSAGE: 2 Corinthians 4:4 - In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

PAUSE: In the New Testament the term “world” is not a neutral word. It usually refers to the realm that Satan rules over and that wars against the gospel of God! Since the fall of mankind in the garden (See Genesis 3) sin has infected all of humanity with a spirit of rebellion against God. And just as Satan was the instigator of that first sin in the form of the serpent, he continues to lead that rebellion. And Satan works full-time blinding and deceiving the people of the world with all kinds of dangerous ideologies and lies. All designed to keep people from being set free through the gospel. This explains why “this world” is such a dangerous place and why God continually warns His children to stay away from the evil snares of the world. Christians have a unique calling from God to be IN the world but not OF the world! (See John 17:14-19)!
