Romans 1:16

Let us be clear--you and I have absolutely no power, no ability, to save ourselves! We have no power to stop sinning. No capacity to earn salvation through performing enough good works. (How much would be enough?) So, our awesome, all-powerful God stepped in and did the thing we could never do. The power of God’s love in action put Jesus on the cross as our sin-substitute. And the power of God’s holiness executed proper judgement against our sin as Christ bore our sin’s upon himself and bore our punishment that we deserved. And then the power of God’s righteousness raised Christ from the dead, victorious once and for all over sin & death. And now the power of God’s grace offers us salvation as a free gift to be received by faith. The gospel is God’s effective power at work at every level. Thank You Lord!

PASSAGE: Romans 1:16 - "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

PAUSE: The Gospel contains the power of God to save us from the penalty of sin (justification) but it also contains the grace of God to save us from the power of sin (sanctification) in our lives.  Pause and consider the incredible truth that the Gospel frees us from whatever sin is controlling us today. 

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, unleash the power of God in my life. Create in my heart the right spirit that is victorious over the sins in my day-to-day life.
