Colossians 1:28-29
Have you ever tried lifting something heavier than you could budge? Maybe if you’ve ever been to a gym to lift weights and loaded up the bar to try for a personal best? Laying on your back with the bar pressed against your chest—no matter how hard you try, that bar isn’t moving! It’s just too much for you to handle. You need the spotter to come to your aide and lift the weight off! In this passage in Colossians, Paul reflects on the work he is doing in teaching and encouraging followers of Jesus to grow in their spiritual maturity. He knows the energy and strength that he’s putting out and recognizes that it’s a supernatural power beyond his ability. When we are aligned with God’s plan and we’re doing the work He’s called us to do, He will spot us with the strength we need!
PASSAGE: Colossians 1:28-29 - 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
PAUSE: Paul understood that to grow into maturity, we needed the supernatural power of God at work in our lives. Paul linked being in Christ as the only source of our energy that enables our full potential in Christ. This verse has helped many Christians rely not on themselves, but on Christ!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus Christ! What a blessing it is to know that the supernatural power of God is at work in our lives. Thank you!
