Deuteronomy 18:18

Feb 23, 2024    Pastor Josh Lewis

How do we know Jesus is the one? How can we be sure that these "Easter Eggs" are pointing to Him? Well, if we continue reading the next few verses, it can help us with that question. The Bible doesn't tell us to blindly follow these prophecies and prophets--instead God tells us to use wisdom to examine what is true and aligns with Scripture. Deuteronomy 18:21 says, "when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken". We are told in the New Testament to "test all things. Hold fast to what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21). With that in mind, we can examine the entire life, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus and say without a doubt, "YES! He is the one." I pray that the "Easter Eggs" of Christ in the Old Testament that we explore over the next few weeks will further strengthen your faith in Christ and your confidence that He is the Messiah and one true God.

PASSAGE: Deuteronomy 18:18 - "I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him."

PAUSE: As with Genesis 3:15, many theologians see Deuteronomy 18:18 as a prophecy concerning the ultimate Prophet, Jesus Christ. Regardless, Moses wanted us to discern and listen to the right prophets who spoke the truth and pointed believers toward the Messiah and the one true God. We all need to pause, determine whose voice we are listening to, and see if it is God’s.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for this series. Help me to hear and recognize your voice as you speak to me through the prophets!
