Luke 24:27

The Old Testament absolutely prepares the way and points directly to Jesus Christ! Without the Old Testament concepts like Messiah, atoning sacrifice, priesthood (all of which are fulfilled in the person of Christ) would be incomprehensible. Take for example God establishing the sacrificial system for the nation of Israel to atone for their sins in the book Leviticus. It is there that God establishes the reality of substitutionary atonement, meaning that our sins are transferred to an animal who is then killed to make payment for our sins. This points to Jesus! And it is a priest that serves as the “go-between” between Holy God and sinful man. That points to Jesus as our Great High Priest. Or consider King David, who gives us a picture of a man/king after God’s own heart who serves as a wise ruler. This point to Jesus who is our Lord and King. Think of the over 300 prophesies about the Messiah that Jesus perfectly fulfilled. Thank you Lord for giving us Your Word that points us to Christ and Your salvation!!

PASSAGE: Luke 24:27 - "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself."

PAUSE: Jesus proclaimed his words and works throughout the Prophets. Like the disciples, we sometimes fail to see or comprehend it, but it doesn’t mean Christ is not there. Perhaps our pause for the day is to slow down and meditate deeply upon chapters like Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, open my eyes when I read the Old Testament. Help me see Christ and the hope of salvation prophesied long ago!
