Leviticus 16:22

Mar 1, 2024    Pastor Josh Lewis

We might look at the practices of the Old Testament and wonder, what they were thinking? How strange would it be today to send a goat off into the wilderness?! It just wouldn't make sense in our culture anymore, because it was commanded for a specific time and place in history for a specific purpose. The purpose was to point forward to one who could actually bear our iniquities and carry them away from us. Jesus is that perfect "scapegoat" that took away all sin, shame, and condemnation. While we no longer send the goat out, the symbolism should not be lost. Your sins are completely removed! Forgiven! You are free! Free to live a life in Christ, rather than in sin and shame. Thank God for that freedom to do all things for His glory!

PASSAGE: Leviticus 16:22 - "The goat shall bear all their iniquities on itself to a remote area, and he shall let the goat go free in the wilderness."

PAUSE: Too many Christians never live in the freedom that we have in Christ Jesus due to the forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness of sins leads to freedom, freedom from condemnation and shame (Romans 8:1), and freedom to live a new life in Christ Jesus (Galatians 5:1). We are indeed free to dance!

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for all the Easter Eggs in Leviticus 16 that point to our freedom and peace in Christ Jesus.  Let me dance.
