2 Corinthians 5:4

May 31, 2023    Pastor Josh Lewis

Paul uses this metaphor of a tent as our earthly bodies, and in this life here on Earth we experience burdens that leave us groaning for something more. Something hard-wired into our nature tells us that life isn't the way it's supposed to be. There are aspects of this life that are wonderful and beautiful, but the burdens of life leave us groaning for something more perfect. In this verse, Paul describes the dilemma that we face -- not just that we want this life to end and be naked of these imperfect bodies, but that we would "further clothed" by putting on our new eternal bodies that God has prepared for us. Then, for eternity, we will truly experience life the way He intended for it to be.

PRAY: God, we praise you for your perfect creation. Even though we experience burdens in this life, you have instilled in us this sense that there is something more that we were created for. We long for the day that we will put on our heavenly homes that you have prepared for us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
