John 5:24
I want you to pay close attention to the verb tenses in John 5:24! Whoever hears and believes (present tense) has eternal life (present tense, not future tense). We do NOT believe now and get eternal life later! Eternal life begins the moment one believes in Christ as Savior!
That means we will NOT come into judgement (heaven or hell) because the judgement against our sin has ALREADY been satisfied when Jesus took our judgement on the cross! Put another way, John says the person who has believed in Jesus “has passed (past tense) from death to life.” So my passing from eternal death to eternal life is NOT a yet future event, but an event that has ALREADY happened when I believed in Christ! That was my judgement day in terms of my eternal destiny! Amazing! Thank You Lord Jesus! Thank You Grace-Giving Heavenly Father!
PASSAGE: John 5:24 - "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life."
PAUSE: Whenever Jesus says “truly, truly” or “amen, amen,” He wants us to know that we can trust Him and His promises. His promise is clear. When we trust in Christ for eternal life, we miraculously cross over from death to life. It is foolish to worry about being condemned to hell ever again; we crossed over.
PRAYER: Father, what an amazing word picture of crossing over from death to life. I desire to live an abundant life with You, trusting in Your promises of life.
