1 Timothy 4:6

The world thinks the Bible is a joke. We Christians believe it is the revelation of our Creator/Savior God telling us the true story about ourselves, our God, and the purpose of our existence. The sad reality is that the modern person who claims to be a Christian is functionally Biblically illiterate. We must go beyond listening to a sermon a few times a month. We must be in the Word, especially the New Testament, several times a week, if not daily! And we need to learn the key doctrines of the Christian life from someone who is discipling us! Do you have a spiritual mentor? If not, I encourage you to begin to pray for one and to seek one. Or maybe it’s time to join a Life Group and a class offered by the church or a men’s or women’s Bible study. Whatever it takes to “get trained in the words of the faith and good doctrine.”

PASSAGE: 1 Timothy 4:6 -  If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed.

PAUSE: All of us are following someone or something! The question is what you are following. Paul exhorted his young protégé to remain faithful to the sound doctrine that he had followed since he believed in Christ Jesus. Is the doctrine that you are following, helping you grow closer to God and His grace?

PRAYER: Father, protect my wandering mind. Keep your truth near my heart. Allow me to be faithful to the sound doctrine that is found in Your Word.
