Romans 6:22

Why do Christians so often live in bondage to sin? Maybe it’s because we don’t fully understand that, in Christ, we have not only been set free from the PENALTY of sin (Justification) but also from the POWER of sin (Sanctification). Sin no longer has to win! But this experience of freedom in Christ is not automatic. We must daily remember our new identity in Christ. We must daily count ourselves to be dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus! (Romans 6:11). We must feed the new life we have in Jesus and starve the flesh! We can’t just say “no” to sin and then live in some neutral, middle ground. We must surrender daily to Lord and walk in the power of His Holy Spirit, aligning our lives with His Kingdom agenda! This is the life of real freedom, of Holy Spirit produced fruitfulness. The life God desires for every single one of His blood-bought children!

PASSAGE: Romans 6:22 - "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life."

PAUSE: Before Christ all we could do was sin. But now, by the power of the Gospel, by trusting in Christ, we have been set free from the power of sin. We have a choice, a choice to follow Christ and to obey his commands. Sin is no longer in control of our lives, by the power of the Gospel, we have been set free.

PRAYER: Father, forgive me of all my sins. I repent of my sinful ways, help me by the power of the Gospel to live for you and not myself. Help me to be holy!
