1 Timothy 6:3
Jesus’ death and resurrection started something brand new! The Old Testament prophesied about it and Jesus established it: The New Covenant! When we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ, we enter into a covenant relationship with Him. He is not just our Savior but He is our Lord, our Leader. In the Old Covenant, God directed people how to live but gave them no power to live it out, so they failed to live it out. But in the New Covenant, God directs us how to live (“teaching that accords with godliness”) and He gives us a new heart and the power of the Holy Spirit to live that godly life. Our job is to know those sound words of good doctrine and then to walk it out in faith and obedience. Good doctrine lived out produces good fruit. The fruit of godliness and love!
PASSAGE: 1 Timothy 6:3 - If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness...
PAUSE: How does one know if they are following sound doctrine? Paul, like Jesus, says look at the fruit that it produces. If your life is full of godliness then your doctrine is sound, if your life is full of division and distress then the doctrine is unsound. Godliness is always the by-product of good teaching.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I desire to be godly. Keep me from getting puffed up in my understanding and knowledge. Help me stay true to Christ.
