2 Timothy 3:16-17

It’s important to use the right tool for the job. Have you ever tried hanging a picture on the wall, but you didn’t have a hammer? Instead of taking the time to search for the right tool, you grab something nearby that seems sturdy enough to do the job. Maybe the back of a screwdriver, or some random heavy object? Full confession—I did this recently. I needed to tap a nail into the wall, so I grabbed whatever I could. It did the job just fine, until the final strike when I missed and hit the wall. I caused unnecessary damage by choosing to use the wrong tool for the job. The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to Timothy, a younger follower of Christ who Paul was mentoring. Paul explains to Timothy that we have the right tool right in front of us to equip us for life. Scripture is our tool for training us in righteousness, equipping us for very good work that God is calling us to do. When we ignore Scripture and seek the wisdom of the world, it’s like using the wrong tool for the job. It may appear that you’re decently getting the job done, but there’s inevitably damage that comes along with it. Lean in to the wisdom that God has breathed out for us, and rely on the right tool to equip you for what God has next for you!

PASSAGE: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

PAUSE: The sufficiency of Scripture is enough for serious growth spurts. Are you getting enough of the proper spiritual nourishment to grow spiritually? Scripture challenges and corrects us; our job is to remain faithful to the Word.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the Word of God. Help me to take delight in Your Word. Allow Scripture to equip me for every good work!
