Genesis 3:15
When did the Trinity plan the cross? Was it after the 1st couple fell in the garden? Was the cross God’s “Plan B”? Did human sin catch God off guard? No! Before Genesis 1 the Triune God had sovereignly planned to create a world in which He would receive the most glory and a scenario in which His love would be ultimately displayed! The scriptures speak of the Lamb that was slain “before the foundations of the world.” (See Revelation 13:8; I Peter 1:19-20). So Genesis 1-3 are actually not the first chapters in God’s story. God’s love demonstrated on the cross of Christ was planned as the centerpiece of God’s plan from before “the beginning.” And in the Old Testament God points the way to the cross through the Passover lamb in Exodus and the sacrificial system put in place to atone for sin in Leviticus. And God graphically describes the cross through His prophet Isaiah. (See Isaiah 53). 2 Key Take Aways: God is sovereign over all of history! God’s heart for you is LOVE!
PASSAGE: Genesis 3:15 - (God’s curse on the serpent): "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
PAUSE: Many theologians consider Genesis 3:15 as the first hint of the gospel. This is called “protoevangelium.” This fancy word means that God had our salvation in mind before and immediately following the fall; regardless of whether this is the first hint, the good news of Christ is found in the OT.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you that you always had a plan. Today, I praise you for your sovereignty and grace in sending Jesus Christ to save me.
