Colossians 1:28-29

You might say that becoming mature in Christ is the goal of the Christian life. Not just getting saved but growing in sanctification. But what exactly is “spiritual maturity?” Many make the mistake of thinking that more Bible knowledge automatically means more maturity. But the Bible itself makes it clear that the key is not so much knowing more Bible but obeying Christ more fully. Or as James says, “being doers of the word and not hearers only.” Are you living in growing obedience and faithfulness in the things you already know? And when our hearts are right with God our obedience is how we demonstrate to God that we love Him. And a primary focus of that obedient love to God is how we are doing at loving others well! This is the true measure of growing maturity in Christ.

PASSAGE: Colossians 1:28-29 - Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.

PAUSE: Paul challenged the early church to pursue spiritual maturity.  As Christians, this pursuit seems almost impossible but through prayer all things are possible. Highlight the strength and energy that comes from above and take a moment to pray for the power you need to mature spiritually.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, may I be faithful to tell others, especially my family, and my friends about You, I ask for Your strength and energy to do this.
