Leviticus 16:21
"But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts." (1 John 1:9-10 NLT) Confession is such an important part of our walk with Christ. Because Christ paid the once-for-all sacrifice, we no longer live under the Levitical law of repeated sacrifice. But the beautiful picture that we shouldn't lose sight of is the example of repeated repentance. Yes, the sacrifice is paid once, but the heart of confession is one that we should make a regular part of our lives. While we still have breath in our lungs on this side of eternity, we will still sin even along our path of sanctification. Don't ignore or deny the sin in your life--instead recognize it, turn to God with a repentant heart, and abide with a Holy God because of Christ's sacrifice.
PASSAGE: Leviticus 16:21 - "And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the people of Israel, and all their transgressions, all their sins. And he shall put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness."
PAUSE: Dwelling with God always requires holiness. Lack of holiness always involves confession and repentance to be brought into fellowship with God. The confessions of sins are necessary to dwell with a holy God. This verse represents (1 John 1:9-10) by which believers today abide with a sacred God.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise of forgiving sins. I pause now and confess all my sins to dwell intimately with you in holiness today.
